If you have not yet heard, the ex-President of the United States of America has started his own social media platform. Yes, it is called “From the Desk Donald J. Trump”. This is my rant from the desk of Angela Ho. As a practising marketer, I did not have much choice in dabbling in the dark arts!
Let us not throw the baby out with the bathwater. Social media has provided us with the ability to have access to global news to anyone with an internet connection and a device to read it. It has also provided generous incomes to many content creators and talent. Did I mean you, Justin Bieber? Nevertheless, there are so many platforms that I am on that Edward Snowdon has confirmed that there is no hope for me now.
Recently, my scepticism of utilising social media as a marketing tool is top of mind. Economics 101 taught us, “There is ain’t no such thing as a free lunch”. This quote is en pointe as businesses spend scores of their marketing budget on these platforms.
Donald J. Trump has a space on the internet to share his thoughts after being banned permanently banned from Twitter and awaiting Facebook’s decision on whether their ban will also be indefinite. Mr Trump, I was wondering why are you not on LinkedIn?”
I have tried to manage a client company page by updating previous employees or unknown people. One of the most expensive platforms to advertise on, LinkedIn has evaded any remedy this misinformation and neither will these individuals after numerous requests.
Have you ever wondered about the validity of using the aforementioned method to target audiences with unvalidated job experiences, let alone recruit your next employee? Perhaps Mr Trump this is fake news. I guess I won’t be able to follow you on LinkedIn.
